Coil Pots

Sixth grade students practice the basic coiling technique in clay when they create this low-fire vases.  We focus on form and line as students brainstorm how to use the design of these piece to create a high interest level for the viewer.  Students are encouraged to experiment with unique "coils" like spirals, geometric shapes, and a variety of lines.

Each student is able to demonstrate their creativity in utilizing lines as they create a three-dimensional work out of clay.  The vases are glazed with low-fire colors, furthering the students' understanding of ceramic techniques.
