Collage Self-Portraits
I created this project in an attempt to help the students learn about the individual parts of the human face and how they go together. People often draw faces from rote memory, but I wanted the students to actually look at their own faces and follow the mathematical guidelines for filling in details.
They learned that the eyes are actually in the middle of the head and how to figure out dimensions that would help them place the nose, ears, mouth, etc.
We used construction paper collage to practice what we had learned in order to create an aesthetically pleasing final outcome.
