Crayon Dragons

Second grade students created these Crayon Dragons as part of our school-wide art focus on the Middle Ages.  Each grade level completed a different project related to the Middle Ages: First grade Castle Drawings, Third grade Clay Dragons, and Fifth grade Paper Mache Castles.

Students learned that dragons were frequently an important aspect of folklore and mythology.  We read several stories in class to get them excited about the idea of drawing a dragon.  We also discussed the various aspects that make up a dragon, such as reptile features, long claws, and the ability to breath fire.

Students got to work drawing their dragons with pencil on construction paper.  They added bright, bold colors with crayons, emphasizing the interesting details in each of their dragons.
