East Asian Tea Sets

Seventh and eighth grade students worked in groups to research tea ceremonies in China, Korea and Japan.  They studied the ritual of serving tea, as well as the materials necessary to hold a tea ceremony.  Each group created a Prezi presentation to share their findings with the class.

After building their understanding of East Asian tea ceremonies, students worked individually to create their own clay tea set.  Students used the coil building technique to sculpt a tea pot, complete with spout, handle and lid.   They used the pinching technique to form their cups, deciding independently whether or not to add handles since many East Asian teacups do not have handles.

Students glazes their pieces so as to unify everything together into a visual set.  The final works were perfect for a culminating class tea ceremony.
