Frida Kahlo Inspired Portraits

We started this lesson by learning about Frida Kahlo and the story of her life, including reading the story written by Margaret Frith.  Afterwards, students had the chance to learn how Frida felt by creating self-portraits while laying flat on their backs.  Each student chose an area of the room and laid down so that they could create their portrait from the same position Frida was in when she made many of her paintings.

After drawing their self'-portraits, students added important things about themselves to the background and created an interesting frame.  The results were impressive and the students had a new perspective on creating art!
