Landscape Silhouettes

Fourth grade students demonstrated their understanding of landscapes and silhouettes through the creation of these fun winter scenes.  Each student created a snowy background scene by using the wet-on-wet technique to paint their paper with watercolor paints.  They added sprinkles of salt that could be brushed off after the paint dried for a snow-like effect.  Students then designed a winter-inspired landscape scene on black paper.  As a class we discussed the concepts of positive and negative space and foreground vs. background.  Students cut out their silhouettes and attached them to their dried backgrounds to complete their winter wonderlands.
