Leaf Stenciling
First grade students created these leaf stencils in the fall as part of a unit where we collaborated with science. Students learned about why trees shed their leaves before winter and then we all went outside to gather fallen leaves to use in our artwork. Each student placed their leaves on a piece of drawing paper and rubbed chalk pastel around the edges to create a leaf silhouette on the paper. Layering the leaf silhouettes with different fall colors created an interesting and vibrant composition.
