First grade students took inspiration from the spring flowers around our school to create these collages. We talked about why flowers grow in the spring and took a walk around the playground to take in all of the freshly blooming flowers. Then, each student worked in the classroom to create a window box of spring flowers.
Students used a paper tearing technique for their petals to add extra texture to their artwork. They added stems and leaves to their flowers and curled their petals with a pencil to make them look three-dimensional. Students used crayons to add decorations and texture to their window box.
