Symbolic Self-Portraits

After having the students create realistic self-portraits with one half of their face, we needed something to do with the other half.  Since the last project had been a serious study in drawing and shading, it made sense that the next project would be more relaxed and expressive.
Students glued the remaining half of their photo on a piece of paper and created a fantasy version of themselves for the other half.  They were also required to incorporate five symbols about themselves into their portrait.  The creativity poured out of them and the results were extremely expressive of their personalities.
