Van Gogh Bedrooms

As an opportunity to show off their skills with one-point perspective, seventh grade students created these Van Gogh inspired bedrooms.  We spent several class periods practicing the concept of one-point perspective, drawing boxes and letters that led back to a single vanishing point.  After students had the hang of drawing in perspective, we took a look at Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles, discussing his use of perspective, as well as his use of color and texture.

Each student designed their own imaginary bedroom with an emphasis on one-point perspective.  They added furniture and details specific to their personalities.  They used oil pastels to add bold, bright colors to their compositions and then carved away layers of colors with toothpicks to enhance the texture of their rooms.
