Warhol Inspired Self-Portraits

Second graders learned about the Pop Art movement and the artist Andy Warhol for this project.  We began the unit by reading the book, Uncle Andy's: A Faabbbulous Visit With Andy Warhol, by James Warhola.  Then students used what they had learned about Andy Warhol to create their own Pop Art self-portrait.

We talked about where things go on the face (the eyes in the middle, the nose halfway between the eyes and the chin, etc) before getting started so that everyone would have a good idea of how to draw a face in proportion.  Then on bright pieces of colored paper, students drew themselves four times and finished the project off by coloring each picture in with different colored crayons.
