Watercolor Contour Pumpkins

Third grade students learned about observational drawing and contour lines.  I brought a variety of pumpkins and gourds into school and arranged them in a still-life for the students to observe while they carefully drew the contours of the forms.  After drawing with pencil on a piece of white paper, each student traced their pencil lines with a thin line of school glue.  Once the glue was dried, we discussed warm and cool colors and the basics of shading so that students could use watercolor paints to add warm colors to their pumpkins and a contrasting color to their background.
