Ms. Lopez in the Art Room

Students in Ceramics I complete a research project on a culture of their choosing.  They compile basic information about the culture, as well as detailed information on the ceramic work of the culture, it's style and function and the techniques required to make it.  

After researching their culture, each student then designs a piece based on their research.  They may choose to create a replica or to create a unique work that is inspired by the style of the work they researched.  Their goal is to have a final piece that helps a viewer learn more about the culture they chose.

To complete this unit, students create an informative poster about the culture they researched.  This poster goes on display with their piece so that students and staff around the school can learn more about the culture in both a visual and written format.
