Australian Aboriginal Paintings

Fifth grade students learned about the paintings of Aboriginal peoples from Australia, specifically the intricate paintings made from various dots.  They also had the opportunity to explore the varied animal symbolism that is frequently used in paintings created by groups of Indigenous peoples.  Students then used their knowledge to create their own paintings in the style of the Aboriginal dot paintings of Australia.  They incorporated various animal symbolism to create a visual story.  As a culmination for the unit, students used their painting as a guide as they visually shared their story with their classmates.
